PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION
This program prepares the student to become a radiographer, also known as
a radiologic technologist. A radiographer administers ionizing
radiation (x-rays) for medical imaging of internal structures
of the body. The curriculum is comprised of specialized
courses in radiography positioning and procedures, radiation
physics and radiation protection, quality patient care,
pathology, anatomy and physiology, and general education
courses. Upon completion of the program, the graduate is
eligible to apply for the national registry examination
through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
Many states, including Kentucky, will also require graduates
to be state licensed to practice radiography.
ACCREDITATION
The Radiography Program
meets the requirements outlined in the "Standards for
an Accredited Educational Program in Radiologic Sciences".
The Joint Review Committee
on Education in Radiologic Technology awards accreditation
to radiography programs demonstrating substantial compliance
with these standards. If a student, faculty, or community
of interest feel that the program is not in compliance
with the JRCERT Standards, he/she is requested to notify
the program coordinator in writing of any allegations
or complaints within fifteen business days of the time
when the student reasonably should have gained knowledge
of the issue.

EMPLOYMENT
Radiographers may find employment in hospitals,
health clinics, outpatient medical centers and physician
offices. Research laboratories and some industrial firms
may also employ radiographers. The current starting pay
for a radiographer is $16 per hour.
ADMISSION PROCESS
The Radiography
Program utilizes a selective admission process. Entrance
into the program is competitive. 16 students are admitted
to the program which begins in the Fall semester each
year. Completion of Anatomy and Physiology I and CPR certification,
healthcare provider level from the American Heart Association
or Red Cross, is required prior
to enrolling in the first semester of the program. A
student may apply for consideration of admission while
in the process of
completing these requirements. It is recommended that students
admitted to the program complete College Algebra and a
Nursing Assistant course prior to the first semester of
the program. Refer to the Admission
to the Program and the Selective
Admission Points System link for more details on
the selective process.
PROGRAM LENGTH
It is a two year program,
starting in the Fall semester each year, consisting of five
consecutive semesters, including a summer session.
