The
physical therapist assistant program at West Kentucky
Community & Technical College prepares the individual
to become a skilled assistant working under the supervision
of a physical therapist. The physical therapist assistant
student is given the background to provide essential
patient services for the prevention and alleviation
of physical impairment and the restoration of function.
The curriculum combines general
education and physical therapist assistant courses.
Various health agencies in the community are utilized
for clinical training. The graduate is eligible to
sit for the national licensing examination for physical
therapist assistants. Successful completion of this
examination enables the graduate to apply for licensure
in Kentucky and other states. The program is accredited
by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy
Education.
The Physical Therapist Assistant program is a selective
admissions program. Students admitted into the program
must have completed BIO137, Anatomy and Physiology
I, with a "C" or higher prior to entering

2005
PTA Program Graduates Have 100% Pass Rate
The
Physical Therapist Assistant program 2005 graduates
have all completed the national physical therapist
assistant examination with a 100% first time pass
rate. The overall state first time pass rate was 77.63%.
The national overall pass rate was 75.05%. The program
mean scale score was also above the state and national
average with a program mean scale score of 646.62
as compared to the state score of 633.67 and a national
score of 627.47. A scale score of 600 is passing.
