A Career in Personal Appearance Services

The Cosmetology program at West Kentucky Community & Technical College has been designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to pass state licensing examinations. The program provides training in professional services in order to give students a thorough understanding of both theory and all pertinent subjects.

Students have the option of seekinga diploma or a certificate in Cosmetology. Other certificates are available in:

Apprentice Cosmetology Instructor
Esthetician
Nail Technician
Curriculum guides for all credentials avialable in this program are listed below.

Students provide all services in today's salons and spas.

They may perform general duties such as making appointments, cleaning the lab and equipment, and sterilizing equipment. All services are available to the public through the Cosmetology program at West Kentucky Community & Technical College, and are provided at low prices.

Job Outlook

Overall employment of cosmetologists is projected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations through 2014, because of an increasing population, rising incomes, and growing demand for personal appearance services. The number of self-employed, booth-renting and salaried cosmetologists should continue to grow, and opportunities will be better for those licensed to provide a broad range of cosmetology services. Men are encouraged to consider and enter the field of cosmetology , because this nontraditional occupation can provide excellent benefits and career advancement potential for women and men.

Salary

In western Kentucky, the median annual salary of a cosmetologist is $22,544. Fifty percent of all cosmetologists earn between $18,149 and $27,150, based on approximately a 30 hour week. (Source: www.Salary.com)

West Kentucky Community & Technical College's Cosmetology programs are licensed curriculum approved by the Kentucky Board of Hairdressers and Cosmetologiest.


The College's cosmetology department is located on the second floor of the Anderson Building.

The cosmetology lab offers all beauty salon services. These services are available for students and the public.
