Barbers work in small or large
shops and in many different settings. Employment may be secured
in shopping centers, hotels, office buildings, and hospitals.
A barber may become a shop owner or a skilled specialist in
one or more phases of the profession.
Barbers provide their patrons with a variety of services largely
related to the care of the hair which includes hair analysis,
anatomical critique, and the execution of all services.
The Barbering Program at West Kentucky Community &
Technical College consists of classroom and laboratory instruction,
experience in histology, chemistry, pathology of the skin,
hair and nails, and the cutting, shaving, arranging, dressing,
coloring, and lightening of the hair.
The program operates under the regulations of the Kentucky
Board of Barbering. Upon successful completion of the program,
the graduate becomes eligible to take the apprentice's licensure
examination.
